Support to Schools

Master Classes

VSO Masterclasses are designed to help build students’ musical and technical skills by observing and working with professional musicians. Masterclasses give support to music educators by providing resources to enrich their students’ educational opportunities and encouraging students to explore the vast world of the Symphony Orchestra.

Traveling Instrument Petting Zoo

Would your students like to see and play instruments from the orchestra? Try the Cornet, French Horn, Trombone, Violin, Viola, Cello and a large assortment of Percussion instruments. Treat your classes to a noisy, fun time and schedule the zoo at your school!

Meet the Maestro

Would your music ensemble or class like to learn how to use their music skills after high school and beyond? Have Darryl One, Victoria Symphony Music Director, speak with your music students about what it means to develop life-long involvement with music and the arts.

Teaching Artist Presentations

Teaching Artist Presentations can be requested by schools looking to help expand student knowledge of specific skills or instruments. VSO musicians travel to schools to demonstrate the techniques or concepts as requested by music educators.

Careers in Music Presentations

The VSO Director of Education will present Careers in Music to schools and clubs, with reservation. Music careers require a wide variety of gifts, talents and intelligences! Careers presented fall under the headings of Education, Performance, Conducting, Composition, Medical/Therapy, Hands-On Instruments, Church, Publishing, Recording and Administration.

Create-a-Symphony Booklets

These free lesson plan booklets introduce how to create your own instruments from home products, write your own music, and perform as a group. Related disciplines such as math, science and reading are highlighted as well. These are especially valuable to elementary schools that are without a designated music teacher.

Meet and Greets

Public and private school music teachers new to the 13-county Crossroads area are introduced to VSO educational opportunities and area music ensemble options. The VSO Director of Education will meet new teachers at their home campus, by appointment.

Crossroads Education Connection Newsletter

At the beginning of each school year this e-newsletter is sent out to the public and private school music educators and administrators, as well as home school contacts, within the 13-county area we serve. The newsletter announces educational programs for the season and gives detailed information about each program.
